It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Ms. Ana Maria (Ani) McKee ’09H, a former Pine Crest School faculty member and parent of an alumna, on October 5, 2026.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Ms. McKee immigrated to the United States in 1960. Throughout her many years at Pine Crest, she served the School community as an Upper School mathematics teacher, chaplain, administrator and director of community service. She also taught values and comparative religion, sharing her commitment to faith and service with generations of students.

Ms. McKee was known for her boundless energy and joyful teaching style. She encouraged her students to find the beauty in their everyday endeavors.

Ms. McKee retired in 2009 after 27 years of dedicated service to Pine Crest. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, the School presented her with an honorary diploma in 2009.

Our hearts go out to Ms. McKee’s daughter, Alicia Palelis ’96, and the Sollosso and Pierson families.

“Ani’s extended family has deep connections to Pine Crest that reflect a shared legacy of learning, teaching and community,” said Dr. Dana Markham ’18H, Pine Crest School President. “May her memory continue to be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.”

Asked in a 1999 Sun Sentinel profile what she most wanted to be remembered for, Ms. McKee replied, “That I worked hard at doing what God planned for me. And that I served with love.”

Details regarding memorial services are pending.
