Two Pine Crest School alumni and classmates, Griffin Conine ’15 and Zack Kone ’15, were selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) first-year player draft.

Griffin and Zack are current student-athletes at Duke University. In their junior year, both started for the Blue Devils, set team records for wins in a season, and advanced to the NCAA Super-Regional for the first time in Duke Baseball history. Conine led Duke in home runs, runs batted in, doubles, total bases, and slugging percentage, and was named to the All-ACC Team. Shortstop Kone led the team in hits and was named to the watch list for the best college shortstop.

Griffin was selected in the second round (52nd overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays, which is the highest draft position a Pine Crest alumnus has earned. Zack was selected in the 13th round (384th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
