Welcoming New Pine Crest School Faculty

09/21/2018

What do a published poet and writer, a Ph.D. in World History and Early Modern European History, a former semi-professional basketball player, and six Pine Crest alumni have in common? They are among 38 new Pine Crest School faculty, staff, and administrators for the 2018-19 school year!

At a kickoff breakfast with senior administrators on August 9, Pine Crest President Dr. Markham said, “You are now a part of a collaborative community of educators and professionals who will inspire you to do better. As educators, we have a huge responsibility to prepare our students to live and work in a radically different, rapidly changing world. Pine Crest is a one-of-a-kind school filled with intellectual and social resources, and I encourage you to take advantage of all the opportunities available to you.”

In July, each new faculty member received a welcome box in anticipation of his or her first day of school filled with Pine Crest spirit items After two days of training with members of the Pine Crest Educational Design Department, new classroom teachers and administrators were matched with an experienced mentor and introduced to Teacher Excellence Achieved Through Mentoring (TEAM), which is Pine Crest’s onboarding program. New faculty will attend monthly meetings with their mentors throughout the school year.

"These are some of the brightest and most engaged students I have taught since I was a professor at Cornell," said Kathryn McDonnell, Ph.D., Upper School Latin and AP Art History faculty member.

Computer Science and Technology Specialist Sean Tibor works with Middle School students on the Fort Lauderdale campus.

“The best part of working at Pine Crest is the students,” said Sean. “Name another job where you get to work with bright, talented people that are eager to learn every single day. I am energized by the opportunity to learn with them and find new ways to help them grow, and I am honored to be part of the teaching team that brings that to life in innovative and creative ways.”

Sean’s daughter is a kindergartener on the Boca Raton campus.

“For me, the best part about becoming a Pine Crest teacher after being a Pine Crest parent is that there are not two different Pine Crests,” said Sean. “I have consistently seen that Pine Crest is a purpose-driven school that strives for excellence - not just with our students, but with all members of our community. For example, the strong emphasis on professional development and the support I have received from my colleagues in Educational Design shows the outstanding amount of capital and time that we invest in our teachers.”
